SCOPE:              The Neighborhood Learning Center was a project with multiple stakeholders and numerous challenges. The site is one of the busiest intersections in the city, was once contaminated with arsenic and other industrial elements, and most famously, the site of arson that claimed the life of a Phoenix firefighter. Despite its tragic history, adjoining neighborhoods had a strong desire to create a safe haven for children, a community library and a computer class / outreach facility. This desire fueled the evolution of the design providing a safe, quite reprise from the interction that afforded a minimal staff oversite of an expanisive landscape of grass and trees in an otherwise barren site.
